Charm of Finches
Charm of Finches are a sister duo from Melbourne, Australia. Still teenagers, and in high school, sisters Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes create something pure and beautiful. They have been playing folk and roots festivals nationally since releasing their debut EP "Home" in 2014. Their music has been described everything from "dream folk" to "chamber pop". They begin with an eclectic musical environment of classical and Celtic strings draw comparisons to artists as diverse as Danish chamber songstress Agnes Obel to Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit. Having started singing bluegrass and Celtic songs in A Capella trio "The Highway Sisters" at ages 8 and 11, they released their debut album "Staring at the Starry Ceiling", which they recorded with renowned Melbourne producer Nick Huggins, in July 2016. The sisters played almost every instrument on the album- guitar, glockenspiel, ukulele, cello, violin , Banjo, lyre ... with guest harpist Andy Rigby featuring Hammered Dulcimer, Georgia Dillon with a touch of flute, and producer Nick Huggins providing percussion for one track. Their songs are inspired as much by encounters with nature as the nature of people, and quite often teenagers. These sisters dreamy folk with their angelic harmonies lilting playfully between melancholy and whimsy, songs to watch the stars by.
